There are so many incredible things going on in the Detroit area, so I focused on the greener options that are family friendly.

Check out your local Farmer's Market for some weekly healthy local foods

Life on earth at Cranbrook Institute of Science
Educational Exhibit on evolution $9.50-$12.50

Be Kind to our World  at Shalom Street 
Learn about the earth through the elements: earth, wind, fire, water. FREE

Park it For Fun at various locations

Evolution & Health at U of M Museum of Natural History
learn about how evolution enabled us to survive and was affected by health

Fairy Doors in Northville.
Take a scavenger hunt walk around downtown Northville and find the Fairy Doors by local artist Prudy Vannier. For a list of doors go here

Kids' Day at River Bends Park, Shelby Twp
Kids activities and a movie (starts at 7pm).  Bring a blanket and bug spray!

SumMore Fest at Southfield Municipal Complex
Inflatables, games, kite flying, crafts, safety house and petting farm.
FREE 5:30-9:30pm

{August 11}
Green Cruise biking event before the Dream Cruise, Ferndale
Join the Sierra Club's eco-friendly biking event the week before the Dream Cruise on Woodward.  Ride starts at 8am with a parade at 11am. Decorate your bike with reused materials before you go!

Bowl-4-Animal Rescue at Country Lanes in Farmington Hills
Bowl your heart out to benefit the Dearborn Animal Shelter and Michigan Animal Adoption Network
$30 advance/$35 door 7-10pm


{August 12}
Family Fun Day at the Anton Art Center
Learn about Claes Oldenburg and make mini food sculptures using everyday objects

Celebrate the Corn Harvest at the Birmingham Corn Festival
Visit the Farmer's Market for delicious local produce. There are also games, crafts and demos.

Go on a Bug Hunt at St. Clair Metropark
Nature walk where you will see lots of different bugs.
$3person/$5vehicle 

{August 17}
Buzzing Bee fun at Country Farm Park, Ann Arbor
Listen to a naturalist talk about different kinds of bees and wasps
REGISTER 1-2:30pm


{August 17-19}
African World Festival at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History
Celebrate the rich culture of Africa with crafts, food, kids activities and performances. 

{August18}
Family Canoe Trip at Heavner Canoe Rental 
Bring a bathing suit and get ready for a day of fun that takes you all the way to Proud Lake waterfall where you can hike in the forest.  A victory picnic and Bonfire end the day.
REGISTER $69 family of 4 or $20 person (you can rent a canoe any day and it is on our list of 50 things to do in Detroit)

{August 25}
Family Market Day at the Oakland County Farmer's Market in Waterford
Learn where you food come from and enjoy yoga, kids activities and fun.
FREE 9am-1pm 

{August 27}
Movie and Splashing at the Heritage Park Splash Pad
Bring a bathing suit, bug spray, picnic (food available for a charge) and a change of clothes to this wet and wild day!  There is a bouncer, games and hiking with a movie at dusk (8:30)
FREE 6-10pm

{August 31}
Learn about Bats at the Southfield Public Library 
A cool multimedia presentation to learn about the world of bats and their important function in our eco system. Plus see REAL bats!
FREE 2pm

  3. I wand to add some suggestions for special growing kids for leisure,Kids yoga seems different but would be very healthy and good to build a better health to them.This is not so unnatural habit, if a kid stats yoga habit in early ages then it would be so good for his whole life.
